🍃DAY 9 : WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO EXPERIENCE
🌬Ancient Madurai is home to the most impressive and important temple in South India, the Meenakshi Temple. If you only see one south Indian temple, this temple should be it! The city of Madurai is more than 4,000 years old, and has remained a major center for Tamil culture and learning.
💥During our #newyearsindiapilgrimage with @ameriga_yoga we will visit the Meenakshi Temple to attend the evening ceremony known as "bedtime of the God". A colorful procession, in which the image of Shiva is carried accompanied by musicians, Temple singers and priests.

Bring your friends: the more, the merrier and the cheaper!
Is this trip too intense if I have never been to India before?
This trip is the perfect way to travel to India for the first time. India is a country like no other, and it can be complex to navigate by yourself.
We have taken care of creating an itinerary that will bring you to visit some of the most astonishing temples, but also allows for time to explore on your own, get in touch with the local culture, and relax. Accommodation in India can be complex, so in this trip we will be staying in 4 stars hotel, except for the two nights in the ashram which are for you to get a taste of ashram life.
What if I have been to India before?
One of the highlights of this trip is that you will be guided by two guides, so that both the itinerary and the explanation of the cultural and historical aspects are taken care of. The Indian guide will be your support for any need during the journey, as well as guide you through the temples, the cities, and each single excursion. Together with Ameriga they will share with you much of history of the Indian civilization, explain how to navigate Hinduism, rituals, and philosophy. Ameriga will support your understanding on the history of yoga so that your visit to the ashram and to Auroville can be contextualize within the historical development of yoga in India.
It will be as taking part into a “history and culture course” through participant observation!
What will the practice with Ameriga be like?
The daily practice will be 60 to 75 minutes long and will be "serving our journey"- hence it will not be the usual 2 hours killer class. We will get energized and stretched out for a day of explorations. During the two nights spent in the Sri Ramana ashram we will join the activities of the ashram.
In the evenings Ameriga will offer Satsang where there will be open conversations on history, philosophy, culture, study and chanting.
There will be a couple of days where the practice will have to be shorter because we need to travel or visit many sites.
Traveling in India can be unpredictable so stay open for whatever arrives.
What are the highlights of this trip?
You will experience Tamil Nadu’s diverse living history, which includes the monuments of long‐ago dynastic rulers, hermetic spiritual practices, and eccentric breakaway communities.
You will participate in two pūjā, prayer ritual performed by Hindus of devotional worship to honor one or more deities, or to host and honor a guest, or to spiritually celebrate an event. The word "pūjā" is Sanskrit means “reverence, honour, homage, adoration, and worship”. Pūjā, in the loving offering of light, flowers, and water or food to the divine, is the essential ritual of Hinduism. The first pūjā will be a special one for the group, a special blessing. The second one will be the evening pūjā at Meenakshi Temple in Madurai. This is a special pūjā where the idol of Lord Shiva is taken around in a palanquin to the sanctum of Goddess Meenakshi and both are put to rest for the day.
Vedic astrology explanation. Vedic astrology, called “Jyotish,” means “the science of light.” Vedic science comes from the Vedas, one of the oldest spiritual scriptures of India. It was revealed to the great sages of India around 1,500-2,000 BCE. Astrology is one of the limbs of the Vedas. It is referred to as the eyes of the Vedas, because it gives us the ability to see into our lives with more clarity. Vedic science is the science of self-knowledge. Through self-realization everything is known. This gives us the realization of the Divine Spirit within all things, and our connection and unity to Spirit. The process of self-realization brings us to enlightenment. This was the purpose intended by the great sages of Vedic astrology. An expert will tell you more…
Ashram stay. During this journey you will have the opportunity to experience the life at Ramana Ashram, a place where lots of Indian and foreign devotees of Ramana Maharishi and Advaita Vedanta philosophy gather. Ramana Maharishi (1879‐1950) was a sage who lived on Arunachala Mountain all his life after his sudden enlightenment at the age of 16. He is considered the greatest realized sage of the 20th century.
Auroville visit. An ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity – in diversity. Today Auroville is recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also concerned with ‐ and practically researching into ‐ sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind
Will there be free time?
There will be free time in the evening after the daily excursion ends. However, the bear in mind that the itinerary is a complex one and the program quite tight.
What will the meals be like?
We will eat at the hotels (International cousins also available) or outside in Indian restaurants. Indian cousin is a real delight, and we are sure you will love it. We recommend to eat cooked vegetarian food and drink bottled water only for safety reason.
How can I get the Visa to India?
You can get on the official website: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html
The request must be done AT LEAST 4 days before departure, but please do at least two weeks/10 days before departure. The passport must be valid at least 6 months after the day of departure from India
The cost of the VISA is 80 USD. Or My Ideal Traveling can take care of it. The cost it will be 100 euros.
Do I need vaccinations?
What’s the weather like?
Tamil Nadu essentially enjoys tropical weather throughout the year hence there’s scarcely much variation in temperature as you’d notice in North India. From March till October, humidity level soars and even mercury level remains 38°C on average. Post monsoon in November, the climate of Tamil Nadu begins to get colder and remain cool till the end of March making it the best time to visit Tamil Nadu especially for sightseeing and temple tours. Temperature can be between 20 an 30 degress in December/January.
Are you doing this again in 2020?
We don’t know! The opportunity came up this year, so hopefully you can join us in December!
