Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House is located right across from the beach of Santa Maria del Focallo, Blue Flag for services and cleaning. In this beautiful beach framed by secular dunes, you will find sun beds and beach umbrellas that we have made available for our guests. However, if you want to see new beaches, the south-east of Sicily offers countless opportunities to spend beautiful days at sea, both in the province of Syracuse in the province of Ragusa.
PROVINCE OF SYRACUSE
The most famous of the beaches to the east is the beach of the Island of Currents (Portopalo), known by locals as Carratois, which can be reached by car in about 30 minutes from Floripa. This 3km-long dune beach is mostly devoid of bathing establishments, except in the summer when you can find 2 (The Dune Beach and Lido Carratois), which organize cocktails at sunset in vogue on Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition to a beautiful turquoise sea, the peculiarity of this beach is that it faces the Isle of Currents, which constitutes the southernmost point of Sicily. This island divides the Ionian Sea with the Mediterranean Sea, and can be explored on foot by taking advantage of an isthmus with water at chest (you’ll probably have to walk with your bags on your heads to reach it).
Another popular beach in the area is San Lorenzo. This can also be reached in 30 minutes from Floripa, and it is the first beach you meet going up the Ionic coast. In this beach the sea is a very transparent turquoise color, reminiscent of the color of the Caribbean sea. You can easily find beach-beds and lidos (equipped beaches), the most beautiful of which is probably the Agua Beach.
Going north, before Noto, you can find the beach Calamosche. Near the nature reserve of Vendicari, the beach Calamosche is located in a small bay, thus the water is almost always calm. A transparent light green sea makes this beach, enclosed between two cliffs, unique and charming. You can reach it only through a walk of 15-20 minutes from the parking lot (where among other things you will find a good restaurant), it is not equipped with any beach-beds, and is very popular in summer.
PROVINCE OF RAGUSA
If you want to visit the beaches of the west side, the first beach you meet and it deserves to be visited is the beach of Maganuco. It is only 10 minutes drive from Floripa, and is located just behind the port of Pozzallo. Besides from a Lido in the west side, it’s a completely free 3-km long beach, very similar to the one in Santa Maria del Focallo. This beach becomes a surf spot when wind blows from south-east (scirocco), so that is also frequented by local surfers.
Continuing west, we find Marina di Modica, Donnalucata and Sampieri, three architecturally very peculiar villages , facing directly onto a shoreline of about 2 km, and equipped with some lidos. These three places are quite popular in the summer, and have the distinction of having great tourist services, and therefore perfect for those with children. During the season of wind, Marina di Modica is popular with windsurfers and few kiters. Also good for surfing, near the pier, offers excellent right when there is storm.
The most famous beach is certainly the one of Marina di Ragusa, known for being the beach with more tourist services in the province. Marina di Ragusa, which can be reached from Floripa in 35 minutes, offers a beach equipped with various lidos, and a beautiful harbor. The sea is protected by artificial barriers, created specifically to make the sea calmer.
Finally, you can not take a trip to Punta Secca, where you will find the famous “house” of Montalbano ( tv series), and maybe take the opportunity to eat at the restaurant on the sea Da Enzo, where often the inspector goes to lunch between an interrogation and the other .
